INSIDE Secure ComboPulse speeds NFC deployment in CE products

FRANCE: INSIDE Secure has introduced the new, all-in-one ComboPulse secure near field communication (NFC) system-in-package (SiP) solution.

ComboPulse is a drop-in, zero-tuning solution that makes it easy and inexpensive to add NFC functionality into a broad range of mainstream consumer electronic products, including tablets, entry-level mobile phones, personal media players and other smart mobile devices.

Combining an INSIDE PicoPulse NFC front end “booster” chip, an INSIDE VaultSEcure secure element with Java Card OS, an antenna and all passive components in a tiny DFN8 package, the ComboPulse SiP requires no additional hardware, no external antenna and no tuning to add best-in-class NFC card emulation and peer-to-peer functions to mobile products at a fraction of the cost and time of traditional NFC solutions.

“This innovative NFC solution is the first on the market with such simple, fast integration, and it offers the smallest NFC footprint in the industry,” said Loic Hamon, VP of Product Management for the NFC Division at INSIDE Secure.

“The ComboPulse SiP makes it easy for OEMs to quickly and cost-effectively add this important NFC functionality into consumer electronics, entry-level phones and other devices to enable more people to engage in secure transactions like mobile payments, transport ticketing, access control and more.”

The NFC card emulation capability provided by the ComboPulse SiP allows the mobile device to be used like a contactless smart card to communicate with standard contactless point-of-sale (POS) and other terminals to make purchases, validate tickets and coupons, accumulate loyalty points and perform banking and other secure transactions.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) mode operation provided by the ComboPulse device can simplify Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing between two consumer electronic devices, and P2P can be used to easily exchange content or information with any NFC Forum-compliant device and may be used to interact with a variety of TVs, cameras, security systems and other home devices.

The innovative design and small footprint of the ComboPulse SiP allow the choice of an optimized location in the handset—for instance, at the top of the handset close to the speaker—in order to achieve the best user experience when using it to pay or pair devices.

The PicoPulse NFC “booster” chip introduced by INSIDE Secure last June is provided with the INSIDE high-performance VaultSEcure hardware solution secure element to support NFC-compliant card emulation and peer-to-peer operation for SIM and other form factors.
