Ozmo Devices ships 1 million Wi-Fi chips

PALO ALTO, USA: Ozmo Devices, the leading provider of low-power Wi-Fi Personal Area Network (Wi-Fi PAN) solutions, has achieved a key industry milestone with the shipment of its 1 millionth OZMO2000 chip. This milestone is especially impressive since the solution was only available for volume shipping starting earlier in the year.

The OZMO2000 is the first Wi-Fi solution to overcome the battery life, cost and compatibility issues that have limited the broad adoption of Wi-Fi for HID (human interface device) applications. Furthermore, the OZMO2000 has demonstrated its applicability for wireless audio when Intel selected it to power the Intel® Wireless Music adaptor for Intel® WiDi-enabled laptops.

The OZMO2000 is compatible with Windows 7 SoftAP as well as Intel's My Wi-Fi Technology. Furthermore, the OZMO2000 is designed to be compatible with the Wi-Fi Direct standard from the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Ozmo's technology has been adopted by consumer electronic industry leaders such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Logitech, Targus and others.

"Wi-Fi peripherals is an emerging category of computing products that has high growth potential due to a couple of attractive value propositions: reduced cost and low power consumption by leveraging the Wi-Fi radio already built into host platforms," said Mark Hung, research director, Wireless, Gartner. "Mainstay peripherals like mice and audio products are trailblazing this Wi-Fi category."

"Ozmo is addressing a very large market opportunity currently served by Bluetooth and proprietary 2.4GHz technologies," said Bill McLean, CEO, Ozmo Devices. "Shipping one million units so soon after introducing the OZMO2000 demonstrates rapid market adoption and is a strong validation of Ozmo's compelling value proposition. We are determined to further expand our market leadership in the low-power Wi-Fi market."
