Openwave and Open-Xchange to provide service providers with advanced email solutions

REDWOOD CITY, USA: Openwave Systems Inc., a global software innovator delivering all-Internet Protocol (all-IP) mediation and messaging solutions, announced an agreement with Open-Xchange, the supplier of business-class email and groupware for cloud providers, to integrate Open-Xchange’s email technology into the Openwave Rich Mail product.

The combined messaging solution will enable a converged messaging experience for consumers by offering a central point of access for all communications needs, enabling new ways for service providers and multiple system operators (MSOs) to personalize, brand and monetize their messaging offerings.

The integrated solution is gaining momentum and four customers representing regions from all over the world have already selected the integrated solution. Most recently, Openwave entered in to an agreement with one of the largest telecommunications companies in Western Europe for Openwave Messaging products including Openwave Rich Mail, which is expected to serve millions of email users.

“Users are bombarded with a vast array of communications offerings available today such as Facebook, SMS/MMS and email. The lack of a single access point to manage and organize all of those formats presents a daunting task for users,” said John Giere, senior vice president of products and marketing, Openwave. “Openwave’s collaboration with Open-Xchange provides a natural extension of our converged communications Rich Mail offering that helps users solve this issue by creating a central access point to easily and conveniently communicate and socialize, access friends, organize and share content. Openwave is pleased to be able to provide this joint solution alongside Open-Xchange to help service providers bring unique value to the user experience.”

“Together with Openwave, we are innovating at the crossroads of mega trends such as mobility, Cloud applications and social networking,” said Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange. “End users, as well as small businesses will benefit now by having access to this technology from their trusted provider.”

“With more than three billion accounts worldwide, email remains the key communication tool of the Internet,” said Antonio Piraino, vice president and research director, Tier1 Research. “Open-Xchange joining forces with Openwave provides a great opportunity for operators to build an expanded messaging experience for their customers.”

As part of the Openwave Messaging suite of products, Rich Mail is pre-integrated with the server components of Openwave Email Mx. Rich Mail can be extended easily by service providers allowing them to expose their entire communication services offering (as well as any desired third party offering) in a coherent way for end-users.
