GigOptix begins shipping volume production orders of 40G RZDQPSK receiver amplifiers to tier 1 telecom OEM

PALO ALTO, USA: GigOptix Inc., a leading supplier of electronic and electro-optic semiconductor products for fiber-optic communications systems, announced that its GX3240, a high performance 40G RZDQPSK receiver amplifier, has entered mass production and is shipping in volume to a Tier 1 telecom OEM.

The GX3240 is a high gain, broad bandwidth, and low power differential amplifier in a compact 3x3mm QFN form factor that is capable of directly driving a 40G de-multiplexer. The product was developed through close collaboration with a Tier 1 telecom OEM consistent with GigOptix’s strategy of partnering with industry leading customers to define and drive commercialization.

Andrea Betti-Berutto, CTO of GigOptix stated: "The GX3240 concept is a very challenging design and significantly strengthens GigOptix’s existing 40G receiver amplifier portfolio. Paralleling our previously announced 40G DPSK receiver amplifier and 100G DP-QPSK driver developments, we aligned this product’s development with a Tier 1 customer’s requirements. This enabled us to design the right device for the market and we are now delighted to deliver on our commitment to provide the high performance GX3240 differential amplifier in volume for our customers’ 40G RZDQPSK platforms."

In their most recent report on 40G components, Ovum forecasted that the 40G RZDQPSK market would grow from 10,000 units in 2010 to over 56,500 units in 2015 representing a CAGR of 41 percent. Two GX3240’s are used in each 40G RZDQPSK transponder.
