Korean communication industry eyes Indian market

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Keeping an eye on the possible burgeoning demand for communication technology infrastructure and products in India around, during and after the 21st Commonwealth Games at New Delhi, the Communication manufacturers of South Korea has approached their Indian counterpart for a showcase of South Korean products. A major corporate tie-up between the conglomerates of India and South Korea is in the offing.

According to N K Goyal, president of CMAI Association of India (CMAI), the South Korean conglomerate of communication infrastructure manufacturers, the Korean Electronic Association (KEA) recently invited 100-member delegates of Indian manufacturers to South Korea in October this year, under the umbrella of CMAI.

The invitation came through the Korea Electronics Show (KES), one of the largest IT shows in Asia recently (on March 23 last). A series of meetings between the two forums were held at New Delhi and Seoul, in which Goyal represented the CMAI and Francis Kang, Director for market development of the KEA, discussed for the Korean body.

Both associations are also mulling over launching a much bigger trade promotion event in the field of Communication infrastructure and products manufacturing at New Delhi, in early 2011.

India, being the second most populous nation of the world, has already emerged as a major market for electronic information communication products. By October, in the run up for the Commonwealth Games, India is likely to record tremendous growth in demand of the communication infrastructure and products.

The KEA, therefore, feels optimistic about the emerging opportunities on this metamorphosed backdrop in information communication technologies in the Indian market, said Ravi Sharma, Executive Chairman CMAI.

"This is being seen in the industry as an opportunity for information communications infrastructure and consumer electronics goods which can improve the quality of life of information-hungry people of India," he said.

Asked about possible turns of joint venture events in the run up for the Games in October here, the CMAI sources said a formal announcement would soon be made for the manufactures in the field.

CMAI has also announced National Telecom Awards, 2010 to be presented by Hon’ble Minister of Communications & IT, Thiru A. Raja and Hon’ble Dy. Speaker Lok Sabha, Karya Munda on World Telecom Day, 17th May, 2010.
